Video shows angry parent punch referee, knocking her unconscious after basketball game
HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) – New video has been released, which allegedly shows parents angry at referees before a high school assistant athletic director is punched and knocked out.
Police in Honolulu said adult corrections officer Aukusitino Noga Jr. faces a February trial after pleading not guilty to class C felony assault and battery after the incident.
The woman who was knocked out, Moanalua High’s associated athletics director Natalie Iwamoto, also filed temporary restraining orders against Noga and his wife, Jamilee Noga.
As part of the legal complaint, the video shows the basketball game on Dec. 4 when Moanalua High School lost to Mililani. The couple can be seen yelling at referees, even using expletives and a racial reference.
“You better wake up, ref,” the complaint alleges Jamilee Noga said in the video.
Aukusitino Noga Jr. joins in saying, “White ref, you suck.”
Alton Mamiya is the commissioner with the Hawaii State Basketball Officials Association and is a friend and classmate of Iwamoto.
“She seems OK, but you know, she’s still a little bit emotional. It’s sad,” Mamiya said.
Mamiya said behavior at games has gotten worse over the years, but he’s never seen this level of violence involving administration or officials.
“I guess during the game, their son might have fouled out from what I understand and they weren’t happy with the call. They were saying stuff to the officials, but they kind of calmed down after he sat out and no one thought anything of it after that,” Mamiya said
While Iwamoto was escorting the parents from the game, Mamiya said she was confronted.
“And that all just blew up in seconds,” he said. “They said they turned around and they found Natalie on the ground.”
Meanwhile, parents who watch the sporting events are concerned about safety and future games ruined for everyone.
People are just getting more and more aggressive and angry as time goes on,” a concerned parent who did not want to be identified said.
The Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation released a statement saying Aukusitino Noga Jr. has been employed since 2012 and that they are investigating the recent situation.
