Grandmother of 5 killed in crash days after Christmas: ‘She’s an angel’
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - A Colorado family is mourning the loss of a loved one who died in a crash just days after Christmas.
Mike and Linda Gerwatowski’s daughter, Jennifer Hooper, did not survive a crash that she was involved in last Saturday.
They said their daughter died en route to the hospital after another vehicle had crossed over the center line and hit her car head-on.
The Gerwatowski family said they lost their son nearly 30 years ago, and they leaned on Hooper in the days following his death.
“I wouldn’t have made it through our son’s funeral,” Linda Gerwatowski said.
Mike and Linda Gerwatowski said that a woman who witnessed the crash pulled her car over that evening and was with their daughter before first responders arrived.
“She went out and held Jennifer’s hand. And even though Jennifer was going in and out of consciousness, she’s the one who called 911. And she’s an angel,” Linda Gerwatowski said.
The family says the selfless act has brought some comfort during this difficult time.
“It was a relief. It really was,” Mike Gerwatowski said. “To know that somebody was there at her last moments.”
The Gerwatowski family says they’re doing what they can to be there for their daughter’s four children and five grandchildren.
Loved ones have set up a GoFundMe in remembrance of Hopper and the children she leaves behind.
Police said there have been no immediate arrests made in connection with the crash.
