One man is dead after a crash early Thursday involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 35.

Officials identified the victim as 34-year-old Jesus Salas Rodriguez of Grand Prairie.

The accident happened on the northbound interstate near Loop 340 next to the Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center campus, the Department of Public Safety said.

One 18-wheeler in which two people were riding was stopped on the shoulder of the highway at around 12:45 a.m. Thursday when a second rig hit it and then collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe before bursting into flames.

Rodriguez, the driver of the second 18-wheeler, died at the scene.

The two people in the rig that was stopped on the shoulder of the highway were taken to a local hospital, but should be OK, authorities said.

The driver of the Tahoe wasn't hurt.

The accident closed down the main lanes of the highway.
