The family of a deployed soldier got a surprise knock at the door Tuesday morning and by Tuesday afternoon the family’s home in Killeen had been decorated for Christmas.

Christmas Décor of Temple donated the decorations and the labor as part of the national Decorated Family Program, which thanks troops by decorating homes free of charge.

Clara Urquica's husband is currently deployed to South Korea, and says she grateful the company chose her family for the decorations.

“I feel so happy about this because my husband is gone and this is hard for me to do it,” she said.

Fred Huffman The owner of Christmas Décor, says the program starts taking nominations for the decorations as early as July and the deadline is Veterans Day.

“The more we can get back to them, you know, just as a thank you for their service for their commitment their sacrifice. Then you know, it's very little for us to do really, in comparison to what they provide for us,” Huffman said.
