Waco: Students participate in robotics competition

WACO, TEXAS (KWTX) Students got the chance to showcase their engineering skills Saturday during the First Lego League Central Texas Area Qualifier at the Harmony School of Innovation in Waco.

Twenty-six teams competed to see whose robots were the best of the best.

Teams had to program and build their robots to perform different tasks.

The team from Harmony said they have been working on their robot since September.

“This competition made me realize I want to pursue something bigger than just this tiny robot…I want to become an aircraft engineer,” 7th grader at Harmony School of Innovation Adrian Ramos said.

Harmony's School of Innovation Robotics Director Tiffani Cortez said this competition means the world to these kids and to her.

“My whole goal is that they have these opportunities, they realize their importance, they realize what skills they are supposed to be gaining and they run with it,” Cortez said. “I love being able to share my passion with them and developing theirs.”

Harmony did not make it to the next round but eight other teams will advance to the championship on Feb. 16.
