An 18-wheeler hauling tires caught on fire early Friday on Interstate 35, closing down southbound lanes for nearly 12 hours.

The truck developed a mechanical problem and burst into flames after the driver pulled to the side of the road at around 2:30 a.m. Friday in Georgetown.

The driver wasn’t injured.

Because of the fire and the cleanup that followed, southbound lanes were closed for hours from State Highway 195 to Williams Drive.

Authorities directed southbound traffic to State Highway 130 and the Texas Department of Transportation waived tolls for diverted motorists.

All lanes were reopened by around 1:45 p.m. Friday.
