Three people were injured Friday night after a crash at the Heart O' Texas Speedway in Elm Mott.

According to the McLennan County Sheriff's office, a car on the track malfunctioned and wrecked.

In a message to KWTX, an eyewitness said the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. when a car hit the wall at a high speed.

The crash sent debris flying into the catwalk injuring three males.

The victims suffered head and chest injuries and according to the McLennan County Sheriff's Officer were all taken to Hillcrest medical center.

One of them had to be airlifted while the other two were taken by ambulance.

According to Heart of Texas Speedway officials the man who was airlifted to Hillcrest was knocked unconscious by the tire.

Speedway officials say the man only suffered a concussion.

KWTX spoke to John Watpole, one of the other two men who went to the hospital by ambulance.

"One of the cars came up pretty close and I was following with the camera, and then I was down on the ground," says Watpole who was released from Hillcrest Saturday morning.

The condition of the other individual is unknown at this time.

Officials from the Heart of Texas Speedway say the accident was "not an ordinary event" and that "we have never seen anything like that happen before."
