Noel Ardoin, 28, died Sunday evening after developing chest pain, family members said Thursday.
Her husband Joseph desperately tried to get his mother to save her.
"He told me ‘she's not breathing mama,’ she's not breathing and he was frantic," Sarah Ardoin said.
Her efforts to revive her daughter-in-law were unsuccessful and Noel died at a local hospital.
Joseph was there as she took her last breaths.
He was still too emotional to talk Thursday.
"I hate to see my baby cry, I have to see him upset. You can't fix it as a mother and I wish I could fix it for my child," Sarah said.
The family describes the loss as unbearable.
"My daughter-in-law says she was my son's rock," Sarah said.
The death came as the family was just beginning to rebuild a life in Waco.
"It was so much in Waco, that Waco had to offer for her," Sarah said through her tears.
Joseph’s sister, Isis Booker, is stepping up to do whatever she can to help her brother’s family.
“Whatever it takes I'm here for them,” Isis said.
She promises to make sure Noel lives on through her five girls, who are all younger than 10.
Several Central Texas businesses have also stepped up to help the grieving family.
Bubba's 33 restaurant has given the family gift cards so they can eat and is arranging activities around town so the family can get their minds off of the tragic loss.
On Sept. 26 the restaurant is donating a portion of its profits to the family.
Waco River Safari is also assisting the family.
On Sept. 30, it will donate 100 percent of ticket sales to the Ardoins.
Toliver Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Bosqueville Baptist church are providing spiritual guidance for the family.
The family lost everything in the Hurricane.
They are in need of clothes, shoes, money, help with funeral expenses, long-term housing, a job for Joseph and anything else Central Texans can spare.
The family has been staying at the Home2Suites hotel at 2500 Bagby Ave. in Waco.
Donations may be dropped off there.
