SALADO, Texas (KWTX) Traffic was moving slowly on southbound Interstate 35 in Salado Monday morning after an 18-wheeler carrying frozen chicken caught fire.

Crews extinguished the flames, which engulfed the vehicle.

The fire was reported at around 6:30 a.m. near exit 283.

The accident scene was cleared just after 1:30 p.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson David Roberts said the driver of the 18-wheeler was traveling south when he noticed flames between the cab and trailer.

He pulled over to extinguish the fire, but was unable to, Roberts said.

The driver was not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Roberts said traffic is slowed in the area, and he advised avoiding the area for several more hours, if possible.
