WACO,Tex. (KWTX) Waco-based Balcones Distilling has started the process of producing hand sanitizer to help fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The company doesn't have a firm release date yet, but is planning on producing the first batch in a couple of days using a formula provided by the World Health Organization, said Thomas Mote, the local distillery's manager.

The only hold up is getting hydrogen peroxide, one of the ingredients, which is pretty popular right now, said Mote.

The hand sanitizer will be packaged at the distillery in 100ml bottles with a warning sticker indicating that the contents is to be used only as a hand sanitizer and is not for consumption.

Balcones plans to distribute the hand sanitizer as a donation to first responders in the community.
