One man is dead and another is seriously injured after two motorcycles that were traveling at what authorities said was a high rate of speed collided late Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 190/Interstate 14 west of Killeen.

Ryan Patrick McCormick, 24, of Fort Hood, died at the scene of the accident and the other rider, Jonathan D. Mirilis, 29, of Killeen suffered what Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said were incapacitating injuries.

Mirilis was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

McCormick and Mirilis were westbound on the highway when McCormick’s 2015 Suzuki GSXR collided with the rear of Mirlis’ 2006 Honda CBR, Washko said.

Both riders crashed.

The westbound highway was closed to traffic in the area of the crash from around 10 p.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday.

Further details weren’t released Thursday.
