Crash on rural highway claims life of Central Texas man, boy, 8

The two people who died late Tuesday night in a crash between a car and an 18-wheeler near the Robertson-Milam County line, just east of the Brazos River have been identified as Gerald Steward-Dykes, 29, and his son Jaylon Dykes, 8, both of Milano.

Torilynn Thomas, 23, of Bryan, who was also a passenger in the car, was in critical condition at an area hospital.

The driver of the truck, Brian Ritter, 34, of Bremond, was not injured.

The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 79 between the Brazos and FM 1644 southwest of Hearne when the driver of the car attempted to make a U-turn and steered into the path of the oncoming 18-wheeler, which KBTX-TV reported belongs to Sander Farms.
