Waco: Local police lieutenant paid girl, 15, for sex, affidavit says
Doris Miller VA Medical Center police Lt. Darrell C. Sanders was free on a $250,000 personal recognizance bond Thursday charged with sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old Hillsboro girl told authorities he paid to have sex with her, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
“These allegations are abhorrent, and the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is taking the appropriate steps to hold this individual accountable,” health care system spokeswoman Deborah Meyer said.
“In the meantime, this individual has been stripped of his badge and is not performing law enforcement duties or interacting with patients,” she said.
Sanders was arrested on Nov. 12 after the girl’s mother reported Sanders was in her apartment with her teenage daughter, the affidavit says.
He was released on bond the same day.
Officers who responded to the mother’s call knocked on the apartment door and when it opened, they saw Sanders “coming out of the apartment,” the affidavit says.
Inside officers found $25 on top of a night stand and “some fresh wet spots” on a bed sheet, the affidavit says.
Officers asked the girl if she’d had sex with Sanders and she said she did, the affidavit says.
Later, while driving the girl to a Waco hospital for a sexual assault forensic exam, an officer asked the girl “if this was the only time she had sex with the defendant and she stated she had sex one time prior to this in which she received $90.00 from the defendant,” the affidavit says.
Sanders, the affidavit says, admitted having sex with the girl twice.
