WACO, Texas (KWTX) Waco’s annual Bowen Music Fest has been cancelled amid the growing COVID-19 outbreak.

The event, which the 1996 Reicher High School graduate started more than 20 years ago as a small endeavor, has since grown to one of the premiere events in Central Texas, bringing huge musical acts to town.

The Bowen Family foundation, formed by Bowen, has raised nearly millions through the concert and an associated charity golf tournament.

The money raised has all gone to support such local organizations as CASA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Waco.

In place of Music Fest, which was scheduled for June 6 to June 8, Bowen plans to host a smaller Wade Bowen & Friends Jam party on Nov. 8 at The Backyard Bar Stage & Grill in Waco.

Organizers will provide additional information by email.

“Ultimately, these events are about helping the people and businesses of Waco and that is still our number one priority,” organizers said.

“We like to call it ‘Waco's Favorite Weekend’ because over the last 22 years these events have been a place where people can come together to eat, drink, dance, and enjoy each other's company away from the worries of the outside world. And when we come out of this, experiences like that will be even more essential than ever. So we're not going anywhere.”

Next year’s Music Fest is scheduled for June 5 to June 7, 2021.
