FREESTONE COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) The Freestone County Sheriff's Office is outing a suspected con artist in an attempt to stop the swindling.

Clarence Jones is charged with obstructing a highway or passage way.

According to Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, Jones was arrested Thursday after a man with the hood of his car up was stopping traffic on FM 416 near Hwy 287 to try to get money to fix the broken-down vehicle.

Shipley says the vehicle was found to start, run, and "drove just fine."

"Deputies Fleming and Leatherman investigated the situation and found that the subject was working a con and obstructing the roadway in the process," said Shipley.

Jones is suspected of "trying to swindle goodhearted folks passing through" two or three neighboring counties including Limestone, Navarro and Leon, he says.

"In an attempt to end his game, we are sharing his photo and the vehicle he was driving," said Shipley.

Jones was driving a charcoal grey Jeep.

He was being held Friday in the Limestone County Jail, which is currently contracting with Freestone County to hold it's inmates, on a $1,000 bond.

"To sum up the story, the con no longer needs money to 'fix his vehicle' he needs money to post bond because he's now a visitor of the FCSO Jail," said Shipley.
