WACO, Texas (KWTX) A local boys and girls club is celebrating one of its most successful fundraisers to date thanks in part to the hard work of some young members.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Waco, which provides programs and services to kids ages 6-18 at two local branches,
held it's annual fundraiser with a "Wild West" theme at the Baylor Club in Waco Saturday night.
"This was our most successful fundraiser in years," club director April Rosier said. "Without our friends in the community we would not be able to do what we do for these children each and everyday."
Money was raised not only through sponsorships and silent and audible auction items but stealing the show this year were the dozen cowboy boots members of the club painted to sell.
"Our members had so much fun being creative through painting cowboy boots," Rosier said. "It was also a great teachable moment giving them the opportunity to help us cover some for the costs associated with their memberships."
The kids were told they needed to help raise the money in order to go swimming at the Doris Miller YMCA this summer.
Every pair of boots sold.
"My heart is continually warmed by the generosity and goodness of the people of Waco," Rosier said.
