GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) A Coryell County man accused of firing rifle rounds at his father was in custody Monday after a search that went on late into the night.
Joseph Berryhill, 36, was in the Coryell County Jail Monday charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence and felon in possession of a firearm.
Bond on the aggravated assault charge was set at $60,000.
Coryell County deputies responded just before 9 p.m. Sunday to a home at 1125 CR 266 after receiving a report that a man had come out of the house with a rifle and had fired at his father.
“The suspect then reentered the residence, barricading himself (inside),” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
As deputies arrived, they saw the suspect run from the home into a nearby wooded area.
They searched for him, but could not find him and requested assistance from the Coryell County sheriff’s SRT team and K-9 unit.
“After an extended time of searching the area contact was made with the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said.
Shell casings matching the rifle used in the shooting were located and secured at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Additional charges are possible, the sheriff’s office said.
