Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they seek new leads in the 1990 murders of two Texas brothers who were shot while they slept.

Derrick Jackson, 12, and James Edwards, 14, were killed early in the morning on Sept. 23, 1990 after an intruder entered their family’s apartment in Vernon.

The intruder shot the two and then struggled with their mother, who was shot three times, but survived.

Another brother, Layman Jackson, 23, was able to escape through a window unharmed.

The intruder was black, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, and had a heavy build.

“Investigators believe a suspect in this case may have ties to Austin,” authorities said in a press release Tuesday.

They’re asking anyone with information to call the Missing Persons Clearinghouse at 1-800-346-3243.

Tips may also be submitted through the Texas Rangers’ Cold Case website.
