FORT WORTH, Texas (KWTX) Denzel Mims made a leaping touchdown catch in the end zone in the third overtime to help the No. 12 Baylor Bears beat the TCU Horned Frogs 29-23 and stay undefeated Saturday afternoon.
John Mayers connected on three second-half field goals (36, 24, 51 yards) for the Bears to help force overtime.
TCU converted three field goals in the first half -- one from Griffin Kell (47 yards) in the first quarter, and two from Jonathan Song (37, 31) in the second quarter.
Baylor (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) had just 219 yards at the end of regulation, while TCU (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) didn't fare much better with 238 yards after four quarters of play.
Charlie Brewer, who passed for just 138 yards and an interception prior to overtime, scored the first touchdown of the game in the first OT with a 3-yard rush.
TCU extended the game when Te'Vailance Hunt made an acrobatic catch in the end zone on fourth down that was initially ruled incomplete, but a review of the play showed that Hunt had possession of the ball and was able to get a hand down in bounds prior to his body hitting the turf out of bounds.
In the second overtime, the Horned Frogs took a 23-16 lead when Sewo Olonilua capped off the drive with a 2-yard touchdown rush.
Baylor responded with a 4th-and-5 completion for a touchdown from Charlie Brewer to Denzel Mims to force a third overtime.
After a 21-yard pass from Brewer to Chris Platt, Mims made his second touchdown catch in 1-on-1 coverage to put Baylor back in front.
Sophomore linebacker Terrel Bernard was the defensive standout for the Bears, totaling 19 tackles (6 solo) along with three tackles for loss, a sack and an interception.
