Bellmead: Hawaii man arrested, charged with trafficking a child

A man from Hawaii who was due to fly home Tuesday was jailed instead, charged with trafficking a child engage conduct/sexual, a first-degree felony, according to online jail records.

McLennan County deputies arrested William James Ortiz at around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Loop 340 in Bellmead after a traffic stop, authorities said.

Ortiz had flown in from Hawaii, "was conducting business in China Spring and when he was stopped, had a 17 year old girl from Fort Worth in the vehicle. UnBound was called out to help the teenage girl,” McLennan County sheriff's Capt. Steve January said.

Ortiz was ordered held in lieu of $75,000 bond.
