WACO, Texas (KWTX) Beloved computer data teacher and yearbook sponsor Jan Skrabanek unexpectedly died on Wednesday.

The news comes as a shock to the entire school.

“We got a phone call that she passed away, it was like there was a big hole inside my heart,” recalls yearbook editor and La Vega student, Mattie.

Skrabanek was known for going beyond the call of duty, and treated her students like they were her own children.

“She was my family, she way everything. When I had a bad day I would talk to her, she would cheer me up, and she was always happy,” said student, Anthony Lopez.

Her dedication to her work and students was recognized by more than just her students.

“The jobs that Jan did would probably be filled by three or four people, that tells you the kind of selflessness that she had,” said La Vega High School Principal, Chuck Klander.

Last year Skrabanek was awarded La Vega High School Teacher of the year, this was her ninth year with the high school.

La Vega High School announced a day of remembrance and a balloon release next friday to honor their beloved teacher.
