BELTON, Texas (KWTX) An overburdened Child Protective Services system in Bell County will soon get some help after a new judge who will take over a new court was sworn in Monday.
Dallas Sims is the new associate judge of the Centex Child Protective Court No. 2.
The new CPS court is one of nine new specialty courts authorized in Texas by the 86th legislature.
According to the new judge, Bell County's court was listed as a top priority for the state.
Bell County currently has 450 open CPS cases.
“Now that we have two courts, we're going to have a lot more time to address those issues,” says Sims.
"I think that's the most important thing- being able to hear people out, hear what's going on, hear the children, allow for them to have time to speak, all of those aspects when making a decision that's right for children."
Sims worked in family law and as an assistant county attorney in both Bell and Coryell counties.
