BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Area school officials and business leaders heard updates Wednesday on the state of education in Texas from Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath at a summit at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

Morath reviewed recent changes from the last legislative session and explained how they may impact Central Texas.

His data show just 47 percent of students entering school are actually prepared for kindergarten.

And while many of the performance-related numbers he provided were low, Morath says others are at all-time highs including SAT and ACT passing rates (16 percent), college enrollment (55 percent) and college completion (25 percent).
