WACO, Texas (KWTX) As you get ready to turn the calendar on a new year, the Waco Fire Department is hoping you’ll consider buying a calendar in which the first responders star alongside some adorable four-legged friends up for adoption with all proceeds benefitting the Humane Society of Central Texas.

Waco firefighters teamed up with the humane society and the City of Waco to produce the first-ever calendar.

The modeling gig was nothing new for the firefighters who had been posing for social media posts all year.

But after 30 dogs featured on social media were adopted, organizers decided it was time to step up their game.

"Why not a calendar?” asked Kristi Schlee, board secretary with the Humane Society.

“We had really good help from marketing department at the City of Waco and we had a local printer come in and donated the printing.”

AMA Nystrom offered to pick up the cost of printing 500 calendars, which are now for sale for $10 each.

Firefighter Richie Campbell, an Engineer at Station 8 participated in the project and has a new nickname at the station these days.

“I’m Mr. July,” he joked.

“It’s a great opportunity to help the community, help the dogs. I've actually rescued three of them myself. We try to help anyone in need. That's why I became a fireman but I didn't have any idea they were going to make a calendar.”

Waco Fire Marshal Keith Guillory loved being a part of the project too and said his department loves helping people and pets, alike.

"When these dogs get adopted and they walk out and they look at the workers in there you can tell they're kind of smiling and they kind of perk up. They're happy and just ready to go to their new homes." Guillory said.

The calendars are on sale at the shelter at 2032 Circle Rd., in Waco, the Waco Tourism Office near the Texas Ranger Museum and during lunch hours at the Revival Eastside Eatery at 740 Elm Ave. and Cajun Craft at 601 South 11th St., in Waco.
