Belton firefighters discovered the body Monday after dousing a brush fire off FM 1670 near U.S. Highway 190/Interstate 14 just west of Belton, Bell County sheriff’s Maj. T.J. Cruz said.

DNA and dental records will be used to identify the victim, Cruz said Wednesday.

The investigation “is being worked as murder,” he said.

The property on which the body was found is known as “The Compound” and drug activity has occurred in the area, authorities said.

A car was towed from the scene that Cruz said could be tied to the case.
