KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX A bomb squad responded Thursday after officers executing a warrant discovered what appeared to be a pipe bomb in a home a few blocks away from a school in Killeen.

Organized Crime Unit detectives served a narcotics search warrant at around 1 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 2700 block of Paula Road and discovered what police described as “a possible improvised explosive device.”

The home and surrounding homes were evacuated and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad was requested to assist along with the FBI and ATF, police said.

Streets were closed to traffic in the area of Paula Road and Becker Drive just off Zephyr Road four blocks north of Manor Middle School.

The incident did not pose a threat to the school, police said, and the device proved to be inert.

One person was arrested, police said, but no further details were provided.

Police were asking residents to avoid the area, but gave an all-clear late Thursday afternoon.
