The Centers for Disease Control is recommending people get their flu vaccines before the end of October.
“It’s important to get it early because it takes two weeks to really take effect in your body and last year the flu season was very early and the CDC is anticipating that to happen again this year,” Medical Director at Premier Urgent Care Jason Bryant said.
Bryant said the best way to prevent the flu is by getting the flu shot.
“Prevention is the key with the flu. It’s very contagious,” Bryant said.
The CDC said parents can get their child vaccinated as early as six months old.
Bryant said it is also very important for doctors to get a booster shot mid flu season to ensure their health.
“They’re (CDC) is actually recommending a booster vaccine throughout the season so it actually takes two vaccines,” Bryant said.
Dr. Bryant hopes people in the community will get their flu shots sooner rather than later.
“The sooner you get the vaccine the quicker your body develops immunity at least protection against it, so the sooner you get it the better,” Bryant said.
If you do not have a primary physician that can give you the flu shot CVS Pharmacy is providing no-cost flu shots.
