CAMERON, Texas (KWTX) The City of Cameron surprised retiring chief forecaster Rusty Garrett by declaring Thursday, “Rusty Garrett Day” during the first stop in the KWTX “Change in the Weather.”

Cameron Mayor, Connie Anderle issued the proclamation, which she and presented to Rusty Thursday.

Rusty was moved by the honor.

“Residents of Cameron and Milam County, you guys have warmed my heart,” he told the crowd that gathered for the event.

“I just want to say thanks to everybody for coming out and saying hello to me and giving me the privilege and honor of shaking your hands and getting a picture from some of you and just accepting me into your homes for these past 30 years and giving me the opportunity to shine the light on Cameron and Milam county.”

The county judge estimated about 500 people showed up in front of the county courthouse Thursday for the event which also featured the Gordon Collier Band.
