TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Elijah Williams, 19, was named in an indictment charging manslaughter Wednesday in a shooting in July that left a Temple teenager dead.

Williams was arrested on June 24 in connection with the shooting death of Mikhail Jawan Ellis, 18.

He told investigators he was playing with a handgun when it accidentally discharged.

He remains in the Bell County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Williams told investigators he was in the kitchen of a home in the 1500 block of East Calhoun Avenue playing with the gun when the weapon discharged, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

He said “he was pulling the trigger of the handgun and pulling the slide back and forth on the gun when the gun discharged," the affidavit says.

The shot struck Ellis in the abdomen.

Officers recovered a spent casing and an unspent casing from the kitchen.

Ellis died at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
