HUBBARD, Texas (KWTX) A 5-year-old boy on whom a large piece of metal fell died at a rural home in Hill County at the scene, authorities said Wednesday.

The boy and his brother were playing outside the home Tuesday night on FM 2114 near Hubbard when one of them ran into the piece of metal, which was sitting on two jack stands, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Wednesday.

The piece of metal fell on the boy’s chest.

The youngster’s mother, who was also outside, tried to remove the metal off of her son’s chest, but it was too heavy to lift, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies, paramedics and firefighters responded to a 911 call around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

First responders performed CPR, but efforts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful.
