David Anthony Balsinger, 46, was arrested last Thursday at his home on a warrant charging online solicitation of a minor, Hamilton County Sheriff Justin Caraway said.

He was taken to a local hospital after complaining of a heart problem.

Authorities declined to say to which hospital he was taken.

On Monday Balsinger was held in the Burnet County Jail.

His bond was set at $50,000.

Balsinger has been placed on administrative leave, the Killeen ISD said in a statement Thursday.

“The Killeen Independent School District requires teachers and all employees to maintain the highest standards of conduct and will never tolerate illegal or inappropriate behavior by an employee toward any child. We are saddened and outraged by this alleged conduct by one of our teachers,” the district said in the statement.

According to the arrest complaint, Balsinger used the KIK mobile app to "entice children to send sexually explicit photos and or videos of themselves."

Balsinger was charged after an exchange of a series of messages with whom he thought was a 15-year-old girl in Evant, but who actually was the Hamilton County Sheriff.

The formal arrest complaint alleges that Balsinger learned the age of the child, but continued to solicit explicit material from her.

The complaint alleges that on Tuesday “Balsinger told the girl he had a football game that evening" and later, close to game time, that he asked the girl to send him a picture of her (private part).

The formal complaint also says that Balsinger was in communication with the girl for nearly 16 hours during the day of the game.

Caraway told KWTX his department interviewed Balsinger Wednesday at Union Grove Middle School where the teacher admitted to enticing the young teenage girl to send him nude photographs of her private part, and said he knew that it was wrong.

The arrest complaint also states "Balsinger agreed he committed a crime by soliciting nude photographs of the child and communicating with the child in a sexually explicit manner."

The arrest complaint was signed by Justice of the Peace James Lively in Hamilton County shortly after noon on Thursday.

Lively recommended a $50,000 bond be set on Balsinger.

Balsinger has taught and coached at the school since 2007.

He started working for the district in 1990 as a substitute teacher, served as a teacher’s aide in 1991, worked again as a substitute from 1992 to 1996 and started his full time career as a teacher in 1997 at Clear Creek Elementary School.

From 2003 to 2007 he taught at Mountainview Elementary School.
