Public housing authorities and Section 8 voucher programs in Central Texas will share nearly $1.1 million in grants, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, announced Thursday.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development funds authorized as part of the CARES act are intended to pay for COVID-19-related improvements and maintenance.

“The coronavirus outbreak has hit Texans hard, and as much as we can protect each other from its effects, we must,” Cornyn said.
