MERNA, Neb. (KWTX) Authorities say a Central Texas man died after his pickup truck collided head-on with another truck in central Nebraska's Custer County.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. Thursday on Nebraska Highway 92, about 2 miles west of Merna.

Roman Romero, 40, of Temple, was headed west on the highway in a 2002 Dodge pickup when his truck crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Ford pickup driven by 49-year-old Kevin Jensen, of Broken Bow that was hauling a skid loader, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Romero died at the scene.

The trailer the Ford was towing broke loose, tipped and pinned the skid loader against the pickup as the truck rolled, leaving Jensen and one of his 19-year-old twin sons trapped.

Jensen’s other son was able to get out of the truck, the patrol said, and flagged down a passing vehicle for help.

Rescuers worked for about three hours to free Jensen and his son, both of whom were flown to a hospital in Kearney with what the patrol says were non-life-threatening injuries.
