A Central Texas truck driver was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Louisiana that left two people dead.

Louisiana State Police say it happened shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday in Lafayette Parish.

A preliminary investigation shows that William Rawlings, 67, of Killeen, was driving east in an 18-wheeler when he encountered slow-moving traffic in a construction zone.

Rawlings was unable to slow down in a timely manner and his rig hit the rear of a pickup driven by Kenneth McNeil, 45, of Houston.

That crash sparked a chain reaction involving five vehicles.

McNeil's truck was pushed into 24-year-old Geri Glasco's car, which then hit the rear of another 18-wheeler, which in turn struck another 18-wheeler.

McNeil and Glasco, of Arnaudville, La., suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.
