Community steps up to help children of slain Central Texas woman

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The community is stepping up to help the six children of a Temple woman who was shot to death in a violent home invasion.

April Lashawn Isaac, 36, died at the scene of the home invasion, which was reported at around 1 a.m. last Wednesday in the 500 block of East Young Avenue.

A man was injured and was taken to Scott & White Medical Center.

A family friend tells News 10 the man was Isaac's boyfriend.

The six children were in the home at the time, but none was injured.

Police confirmed Monday night the man is in stable conditions and responding to treatment well.

Supporters of the family, which has been temporary displaced from the home, are collecting clothing and shoes from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays at Testimonial Hair Designs at 816 South 31st St. in Temple.

The family needs clothing for an 18-month-old girl, boy’s clothing in sizes 10 and 12, girls’ clothing in size 10, junior’s clothing in size 3, misses’ clothing in size 7, large men’s clothing and men’s 2XL pajamas and leisure clothing.

The sizes of the shoes needed are women's 8, women's 9, men's 11 or 11.5, men's 6 or 6.5 and girls 2.5.

Food and toiletry items are also needed.

A sign-up sheet for people wanting to deliver meals has been made available through a meal train link attached to the article.

Services for Isaac were pending Monday.

Police have released no new information.
