CORSICANA, Texas (KWTX) The first case of the new coronavirus has been confirmed in Navarro County.

The case involves an individual with “some complicating medical conditions” who isn’t elderly, Dr. Kent Rogers of the Corsicana-Navarro County Health Department said in a post on the county’s Emergency Management Facebook page.

The resident is in a hospital outside of the county, Rogers said.

“This unfortunate turn of events affirms the wisdom of our city and county leadership in placing us under ‘shelter in place,’” Rogers said.

As of Thursday morning, 28 cases of the virus had been confirmed in McLennan County, 20 in Bell County including the area's first death, two in Milam County and one each in Coryell, Falls and Robertson counties in Central Texas.

Early Thursday afternoon 1,424 cases of the virus had been confirmed in Texas.

Eighteen of those have died.
