Copperas Cove police are looking for the owner of a pit bull that an officer shot and killed after the dog tried to bite an animal control officer.

Police received a report at around 1 p.m. Monday that two pit bulls were running loose in the 2200 block of Keenan Avenue in Copperas Cove.

As the animal control officer tried to corral the two dogs, one of the pit bulls tried to bite him.

A police corporal shot the dog “to prevent it from causing harm to the animal control officer,” police said in a press release.

None of the officers was injured.

The other was taken to Copperas Cove Animal Control, police said.
