Coryell County: Commissioners sign it, but will SpaceX come?

CORYELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) Coryell County commissioners signed off on an incentive package Monday they hope will attract SpaceX to expand its footprint into the county.

The agreement would provide incentives to stimulate, encourage and develop business location and commercial activity in Coryell County in return for which SpaceX would have to maintain a payroll of about $2 million for employees who live in the county.

SpaceX hasn’t publicly announced any plans to expand beyond the more than 4,000 acres it now leases from the City of McGregor, but if the private space exploration company were to expand across the McLennan County line, Oglesby is the community closest to the rocket motor testing facility.

Sherry Standridge owns the tpwn's grocery store, restaurant and laundromat.

She says if SpaceX were to expand, it would help attract more people to the town of 484 residents.

“It would help our business grow a little bit more. We would get more customers to come in,” Standridge said.

“It would help get more tax dollars for our community itself,” Standridge said.
