AUSTIN, Texas The Crawford Lady Pirates are 2A state softball champions after an 8-7 win in extra innings over Thorndale on Thursday.
Crawford rallied from a 4-run deficit in the title game and then scored the one run they needed in the 8th inning to win the championship.
The Lady Pirates scored some early runs to take a 3-1 lead over Thorndale in the 4th inning. That 3-run lead was short lived however, as Thorndale rallied in the 5th, a 6-run inning included a Kelsey Kovar 2-run double as the Lady Bulldogs built a 7-3 lead.
But as they did in the semifinal, Crawford rallied late. The Lady Pirates scored 4 runs in the 6th inning to tie things up. The big hit was Kyla Mach's rbi hit to tie the game at 7.
After a scoreless 7th inning, Crawford came to bat in the 8th with a chance to earn the win. Makey Dunbar did just that, hitting a ball to the wall to bring home the game winning run for the Lady Pirates.
