KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Four families are displaced after a fire broke out at a four-plex in Killeen Tuesday evening.

15 units from Killeen and Harker Heights battled the fire in the 3500 block of Malibu Lane near the intersection with Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard.

Malibu Lane was closed to traffic in the area of the fire.

Thick smoke could be seen from miles away.

Crews were able to get the fire under control about an hour later.

A next-door neighbor says she was inside her apartment when her children came yelling to her that the neighbor's house was on fire.

"My first mother instinct was to get to my car and load up my special needs son and just get away from the fire. I didn't know how far it was going to stretch," said Renika Johnson.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
