WACO, Texas (KWTX) Waco's Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 is the oldest in the state of Texas and has over 1,000 members across the country.
But if it failed to meet the quorum of at least seven members per meeting for the fourth month in a row, the chapter would have had to dissolve.
After a post card campaign to the 700 area members, they got enough members to attend Tuesday’s meeting. DAV leadership used the meeting to ask for ideas for boosting attendance in the future, in hopes to prevent this situation from happening again.
While the DAV office will remain open regardless, losing the chapter means losing a collective voice for disabled veterans.
"We assist the disabled veterans in getting the care that they need from the VA system,” said Wayne Lee, the Chapter Commander. “But the big thing is, we assist the veterans in getting their claims processed by the VA and getting them upgraded as time goes by.”
The DAV meet the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30 at the New Road Church of Christ in Waco
