Authorities Thursday identified the man who died at a local hospital after his car veered off a rural road and slammed into a tree as Calvin Kilgo, 22, of Waco.
The accident happened at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on FM 1858 near Old Tokio Road west of West, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said.
Investigators determined Kilgo was westbound at an “unsafe speed” in a Chevrolet sedan when he failed to negotiate a curve, Howard said.
The car left the roadway and crashed into the tree, he said.
Kilgo was flown to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple where he was pronounced dead, Howard said.
