Victim of deadly Central Texas car-truck crash identified

SALADO, Texas (KWTX) One man was killed Tuesday morning when his compact car crashed into the rear of an 18-wheeler on a rural road west of Salado.

The Department of Public Safety identified the victim Tuesday evening as Nefthali Cortes-Rojas, 44, of Florence.

Cortes-Rojas died when his eastbound 2005 Kia sedan struck the trailer of the 18-wheeler, whose driver was attempting to make a U-turn when the rig got stuck, blocking the entire roadway, Department of Public Safety Sgt. David Roberts said.,

The accident happened at around 8:15 a.m. on FM 2843 just less than a mile west of Hidden Springs Drive.

Cortes-Rojas was pronounced dead at the scene, Roberts said.

The truck’s driver, Patrick Shavers, 54, of Dallas, was not injured.

The accident is under investigation.
