A man who was seriously injured when an 18-wheeler struck his SUV after the SUV struck an Interstate 35 barrier early Monday morning was flown to a local hospital.

The accident happened on the northbound interstate near exit 314 between Troy and Bruceville-Eddy.

Initial reports from the scene indicated the SUV hit the barrier and then was hit by the 18-wheeler.

The SUV’s driver was flown to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with what authorities said were life-threatening injuries.

Northbound traffic backed up because of the crash, but the highway has since been cleared.
