Driver flown to local hospital after vehicle shoots off bridge
A 28-year-old man was flown to a local hospital Thursday after he lost control of his vehicle which shot off the San Saba River bridge on State Highway 16, coming to rest just a few feet from the water.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was southbound on Highway 16 at what authorities said was a high rate of speed when he attempted to turn onto FM 1480.
He failed to make the turn however, and his vehicle struck a guardrail, went airborne, struck a light pole, knocking it down, and the shot off the Highway 16 bridge across the San Saba River.
The man was flown to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating.
