Driver flown to hospital after head-on crash

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) A driver was flown to a hospital and another was rushed by ambulance after a serious crash in Belton Thursday night.

A DPS trooper said the head-on collision happened on Water Works Road at Sparta around 7 p.m.

DPS said the Mercury Mariner SUV was southbound and the GMC Sierra truck was northbound at the time of the crash.

The force of the collision knocked the engine out of the SUV and it landed on the other side of the road in a field of cows.

The driver of the truck was trapped inside for nearly an hour and-a-half.

The top of the truck was cut off in order to free him.

He was flown to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple around 8:30 p.m.

The other driver was also taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple by ambulance.

DPS has not released the drivers' conditions.

Crews blocked of Water Works Road as they worked to clear the scene.
