Early morning fire destroys vacant Waco home
A vacant house was destroyed early Wednesday morning after a fire tore through the home.
Waco firefighters responded to the home off of the 1500 block of Herring Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire officials said the house was declared unlivable earlier after the roof collapsed.
Fire crews extinguished the flames, and were able to save other homes nearby from catching fire.
"The first concern is always life safety. So the crews were wanting to make sure that no one was inside and then to make sure that the house next door and all the neighbors were okay in that house," said Battalion Chief Patrick Kerwin.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
