An elderly Coryell County man drowned Thursday after falling out of his boat while fishing in a stock tank.

Thomas Hill, 81, was pronounced dead at the scene at around 11:40 a.m. Thursday at 625 County Road 220 between Turnersville and Jonesboro.

Hill’s wife called the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office at around 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

She found her husband lying face down in the water after going to the pond to check on him and to take him something to drink, authorities said in a press release.

Investigators learned that Hill had scheduled a doctor’s appointment Thursday after “experiencing medical illness” earlier in the day.

They think he suffered a medical episode while fishing from the flat-bottom boat, loss consciousness and fell into the water, authorities said.
