CORSICANA, Texas (KWTX) Former Corsicana ISD teacher and coach Jackie Ray Grace, Jr., 39, was in the Midland County Jail Friday awaiting transfer to Navarro County after he was arrested on warrants charging three counts of sexual assault/bigamy, stemming from allegations he had sex with three individual students between August 2012 and March 2015, according to indictments released Friday.
Grace was first arrested on Jan. 26 and was charged with three counts of improper relationship between educator and student, but he was indicted in April on three counts of sexual assault because prosecutors said the three-year statute of limitations on the improper relationship charge had expired.
The indictments allege that Grace had sex with three different female students, the first in August 2012, the second in August 2014, and the third in March 2015.
Sexual assault is a second-degree felony, but the addition of bigamy to the charge upgrades the offense to a first-degree felony “if the victim was a person whom the (suspect) was prohibited from marrying or purporting to marry or with whom the (suspect) was prohibited from living under the appearance of being married” under the Texas bigamy statute, according to the Texas penal code.
Graces bonds total $90,000.
Meanwhile, Corsicana ISD police have completed forensic interviews with the students and former students of an ex-third grade teacher accused of fondling girls in his class.
Ramon Santuario-Mendoza, 48, remains in the Navarro County Jail charged with 12 counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
Bonds total $600,000 for the former teacher, who was first arrested on six counts on April 22, posted a $450,000 bond and then rearrested on April 30 on six additional counts.
Mendoza, who was an English as a second language teacher at Sam Houston Elementary School in Corsicana, is accused of fondling female students in his classroom over a period of more than a year, according to affidavits.
