Members of a Hico family are staying at a hotel after an explosion and fire destroyed their home.

The explosion happened at around 11 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 281 and FM 1744 in Hico, 60 miles west of Waco.

The Hico Volunteer Fire Department responded to the home, which was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

No one was home at the time of the explosion, which is under investigation.

The homeowner, Will Hanson, said his family is staying at a hotel at this time and will meet with a fire marshal on Monday to learn more about what caused the explosion.

Hanson owns a horse performance company.

Donations are being accepted at Coles General Store at 111 North Elm St.
